The web's currency
While commenting the recent XML 2003 conference and Adam Bosworth's opinions on networked information spaces, Tim Bray writes the following:
<...> In the early days of Java, lots of people tried to abstract SQL away behind objects and methods, until we eventuually learned that the right way to interface to a database is to compose and send SQL queries and get tuples back. Similarly, the right way to use networked information spaces is acknowledge that you’re following hyperlinks, and that this has a cost.
My emphasis... by the way... This somehow self evident and yet often overlooked assessment holds true up the networking stack, through the application layer and right into content!
